Not trying to defend anyone in the Rice or Sandusky affairs and probably won't say this right but...it's a lot easier to make a decision on something after time has passed and more people are asked for an opinion. It's a lot harder to make a decision in the heat of the moment or without the benefit of hindsight.

In both cases we don't really know what people knew and when. For example was Rice swearing, using racist or homophobic slurs, throwing basketballs at people's heads at each practice and during the entire length of the practice and constantly or was the video a compilation of incidents Over time? I'm not saying that either situation is good or means that Rice shouldn't be fired. But the people/person making a decision on what to do or how far to go is affected by that in making a decision.

Perhaps a picky point but I don't like the ease with which people say someone did something stupid or made a bad decision when they have the benefit of no pressure. It's different making a decision under duress. Doesn't mean the AD ( or the PSU brain trust etc.) were correct.
