Joel Wright is a pickup I wouldn't expect a great deal from immediately. From all the scouting reports I've read, the best comparison may be Andre Marhold. He can jump through the roof, hence the nickname, and reportedly works very hard but is very, very limited offensively, still struggling with layups. He scored most of those 23 points/game finishing fast breaks with dunks. He does not possess good post-up skills yet nor does he possess a good outside shot. Although I haven't seen anything on his defense, he is very new to the game and likely still hasn't learned many of the nuances required in the college game.
In our system, I would not list him as a combo-forward, He is PF who can get rebounds and run the floor. I think that is the role that needs to be developed for him this year, perhaps alowing Bill to spend more time at the #3 or get a few minutes on the bench.
I know it's a pet peeve of mine, but what I really want to see is how well RE and the rest of the staff develops him.
We tend to get fooled when we see that that bigger programs have shown interest in a player. Most of that interest is never followed up with a scholarship offer. They are simply intrigued by potential.
Does anyone know whether he played basketball last year at the charter school or is he a year removed from the game?
