I didn't care for the analogy in the case of Doumit vs. Snyder and I like it even less when looking at Ron. To suggest that the "car would have no engine" the person would have to be completely and utterly incompetent. For example, if I were the catcher for the Pirates, replacing me with Snyder and than suggesting he is relatively good would be a great time to use that analogy.

Ron is certainly not incompetent. In fact, he is a very good coach and has a particular skill set that makes him an ideal candidate for a rebuilding school. I really don't think he fits the analogy about the car engine all that well. My wife would fit, but not Ron. At the same time, we have no idea if he's Jennifer Anniston yet because he hasn't had enough time to prove that he's more than just a rebuilder. He's like the girl you make out with at the recently closed Matrix or Bar 11 who you don't know what they look like because it's too dark. However, while the lights are out, you're perfectly content and feel like you're doing well for yourself. Now two, three years down the line, Ron could be a great success continuing to build on his current success and when the lights turn on, boom, he's Jennifer Anniston. Or the program could stagnate and the light's go on and boom, he's Kathy Griffin. Either way, we're not sure what we have at this point. However, when we do, I'm not going to settle for Kathy Griffin. As far as I'm concerned she gets left at the club.

I've also used the analogy of why drive a Dodge when you can drive a Benz or something like that. In hindsight, it fails for the same reason the Anniston analogy fails, because we wouldn't know what car we're driving just yet.
