A very nice poster on the Voy Football board has asked repeatedly for updates from football training camp......which caused another rant by me. I am starting to feel like Glen Beck crying or Keith Olbermann's Special Comments. Here was my rant from the Voy Football board...
This was in response to the questions, "Surely someone has stopped by Rooney, any updates?"
At the risk of sounding negative, this is not the job of the fans. Please hear me out. Duquesne cut 5 mens sports. There are two Assistant Directors of Media Relations and one Assistant Athletic Director - Media Relations. The same number before the cuts. Less sports to cover, same number of people.
Duquesne maintains a website for sports, a Facebook page and a Twitter page.
I simply do not understand why there can not be more information coming from these people PAID to promote DU sports.
Why can't there be a position by position preview posted telling me about returning players and new players? Why can't their be daily tweets from camp? Why can't there be daily pictures posted on facebook?
The only info coming out of the Athletic Department is four weekly pictures about the AJP renovations.
I know I get constantly told by many that I just complain. Fans that work during the day can't be expected to attend practices to report on and promote this team. The people that get paid to do it should.
And I would e-mail them or call those specifically involved if I thought it would not just be summarily dismissed.
There are plenty of people that are interested in this information. We will have to wait for the media guide and the first website game preview.
Also, we should not be making these suggestions. Someone there should give a damn enough too.
